Apple Ups iCloud Security – Sends Email Alert When iCloud Accessed Via Web Browsers

Apple CEO Tim Cook was quoted last week as saying Apple would be beefing up iCloud security measures as a response to the compromised celebrity iCloud accounts.

MacRumors:

Among the additional security features said to be rolling out over the following two weeks were new email alerts whenever there is an attempted password change, a device restore from the account, or a login from a new device. Password change and login alerts had previously only been sent when the event took place on an unknown Apple device.

As shown above, Apple has begun sending out alert emails when an iCloud account is accessed via a web browser. The alerts will reportedly be sent even if a browser has been previously used to access iCloud. MacRumors reports that this is presumably a one-time measure, with the alert not being repeated for future logins of that particular account/browser/computer.

If Apple is to make its much-rumored new mobile payments initiative a success, it need to assure current and future users that it has made moves to ensure security, and to protect users’ personal and financial information.
