Discover Card “In Discussions” to Join Apple Pay Electronic Payments System

In response to a taunting “Ha, @Discover you suck” tweet from user @Appleholic, Discover Card has confirmed they are in discussions with Apple to join competitors American Express, Visa and MasterCard in the Apple Pay electronic payments system.

Apple’s new electronic payment service allows users to create electronic versions of their credit cards and store them in Passbook to use for contactless payments using their iPhone 6 or Apple Watch. (If iPhone 5, 5s, or 5c users buy an Apple Watch, they’ll be allowed to join the payment fun too.)

Apple Pay will first launch in the United States in October as an update to iOS 8. Apple Pay will work in stores with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch. Apple Pay APIs will be available to developers in iOS 8 so they can enable purchasing physical goods within their apps on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
