2011 MacBook Pro GPU Complaint Petition Reaches 18K Signatures

As an online petition reaches 18,000 signatures, Apple continues to ignore user complaints that the 2011 MacBook Pro suffers from faulty manufacturing, resulting in GPU glitches and failures.

The online petition at change.org, calls for Apple to fix or replace machines affected by the problem. The petition is addressed to TImothy D. Cook and Craig Federighi at Apple Inc.

The petition notes that while customers spent thousands of dollars for the premium laptop, Apple’s only response so far has been to tell owners they’ll need to pay for an expensive logic board replacement. Owners report repair costs of between $300 and $700, with diagnoses often pointing to failure of either the soldering or thermal paste on the AMD Radeon HD 6750M.

An Apple Support Communities thread detailing the issue has grown to over 9,000 posts. A Google search for “2011 MacBook Pro GPU” brings up numerous suggestions for search results. A number of affected owners have also tweeted about the issue using the hashtag #MBP2011.

Apple has declined comment on the issue.
