Apple to Pull Fitbit Activity Trackers From Apple Store Shelves

Re/code reports that Apple is planning to pull Fitbit activity trackers from the selves in its retail stores as it prepares to launch its own Apple Watch wearable device.

The move comes one week after Fitbit announced that it was still evaluating the integration of its devices with Apple’s HealthKit, and Health app, which acts as a central hub to collect and view health and fitness data on iPhones.

While Fitbit hasn’t updated its apps to use HealthKit, other health and fitness app makers, such as iHealth, Jawbone Up and MyFitnessPal, have raced to include HealthKit integration in their apps.

It is unclear if Apple will continue to sell other wearable devices, such as the UP from Jawbone and the Nike Fuelband, as the introduction of their own Apple Watch looms in the distance.

In a statement to Re/code, Fitbit founder and CEO James Park said the company still “looks forward to a robust holiday season as the connected health and fitness category continues its rapid growth.” Park noted that Fitbit is still sold in over 37,000 retail stores worldwide.
