Report: Retina iPad mini 2 to Debut Alongside iPad Air 2

Numerous reports have alleged that Apple’s Retina iPad mini would get little, if any, update love this year. However, a new report claims a second-generation Retina iPad mini will debut alongside the the iPad Air 2 at this Thursday’s Apple event.

MacRumors:

But now a new report from Mac Otakara [Google Translate] claims the second-generation Retina iPad mini does indeed appear set for an introduction alongside the iPad Air at this Thursday’s press event.

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had expressed some uncertainty in the past about an iPad mini upgrade for this year, saying that it possibly might receive an update such as a Touch ID sensor, “if any.” Another report claimed the Retina iPad mini 2 would launch early in 2015, just ahead of the much-rumored “iPad Pro.”

If the report is correct, Apple may also update its Smart Case and Smart Cover line of accessories to include new colors and a tweaked design to ensure compatibility with the new tablets.

Apple is expected to debut the iPad Air 2 – and possibly an updated Retina iPad mini – alongside updated iMacs, including a 27-inch model sporting a Retina display, at their event, coming up on Thursday, October 16. MacTrast will be live-tweeting the event, with all the information about the announcements immediately following the event.
