Grocers Winn-Dixie and BI-LO Now Accepting Apple Pay

The Apple Pay train keeps on rolling, with grocery chains Winn-Dixie and BI-LO now accepting Apple Pay in their stores. Office supplies superstore Staples began accepting Apple Pay in its bricks-and-mortar stores earlier this week.

 MacRumors:

According to a tipster who spoke to MacRumors, Apple Pay will officially be supported at Winn-Dixie beginning on Monday, November 17, but multiple reports on Twitter suggest that both Winn-Dixie and its sister store BI-LO have already begun processing Apple Pay payments.

Winn-Dixie and BI-LO have the same parent company. Winn-Dixie is a large chain operating in the southeastern region of the United States with over 500 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The BI-LO chain operates over 800 stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

The chains join Meijer, Wegmans, and Whole Foods as major supermarket chains accepting Apple Pay at their checkouts.

Apple Pay now has over 36 retail partners, including, Macy’s Walgreens, Toys R Us, and Disney. Apple Pay is also accepted at many stores that have NFC-enabled contactless payments terminals.

While not much information has been leaked as to the popularity of Apple Pay during its first month, A Whole Foods executive told The Wall Street Journal that the company had processed 150,000 Apple Pay transactions during the first 17 days they offered Apple Pay transactions. That amount comes to around 1% of all of the food store’s transactions for that period.
