OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 Update Doesn’t Remedy Wi-Fi Issues For Some Users

Apple released the OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 update on Monday, which listed as a fix, “Improves Wi-Fi reliability.” However, Computerworld reports a number of users on Apple’s support forums are claiming they still have issues following the update, with some reporting an inability to connect at all, and others saying their Wi-Fi speeds are achingly slow.

MacRumors:

The largest thread on Apple’s support forums discussing the Wi-Fi problems in OS X Yosemite has grown to 1,120 replies with more users reporting issues with a number of Macs and a variety of router types. Members of theMacRumors forums have also reported problems with Wi-Fi after updating to 10.10.1 even when using their computer in different areas. One user even reported Wi-Fi issues with the iMac with Retina 5K Display and the newest Time Capsule networking device.

Some users report success with a clean install of Yosemite, while others report success in running their routers in “Access Point” mode, switching the Wi-Fi connection to the 2.4GHz band, or running a script to restart OS X’s Wi-Fi Monitor. No one solution seems to fix the Wi-Fi issues for users experiencing them.

Other issues reported with the update include running Dark Mode on non-Retina displays, experiencing unstable Bluetooth connections, and high CPU utilization.

While Apple has yet to issue an official statement about the reported issues, some Apple support representatives have suggested users remove excess preferred networks in the Network section of System Preferences and to reset the System Management Controller.

We’ll keep an eye out for additional fixes – and an official statement from Apple – and let you know when we hear something new.
