So starting at 10 a.m. PST in the U.S., you can rent or buy “The Interview” on Google Play and YouTube Movies. It will also be available to Xbox Video customers and via http://www.seetheinterview.com.

The New York Times reports that Apple had no interest in Sony’s attempts to get the Cupertino firm to distribute the controversial film, “The Interview,” via iTunes.

NYT, via MacRumors:

It remained unclear, however, whether any on-demand service would take “The Interview.” According to people briefed on the matter, Sony had in recent days asked the White House for help in lining up a single technology partner — Apple, which operates iTunes — but the tech company was not interested, at least not on a speedy time table. An Apple spokesman declined to comment.

Sony Announced earlier this week that “The Interview” would be showing at select independent cinemas. Sony Entertainment Chairman and CEO Michael Lynton said the company is “continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.”

The film has been the subject of considerable controversy in recent months, as it depicts two journalists enlisted by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. The hacking of Sony Pictures’ computers led to the initial cancellation of the movie’s premiere, a move U.S. President Barack Obama later termed a “mistake.”
