Super Bowl XLIX to be Streamed Live on iPad, iPod touch and the Web for Free

NBCUniversal has announced that it will offer a new “Super Stream Sunday” promotion on Sunday, Feb. 1, in which it will stream 11-hours of continuous Super Bowl XLIX coverage, including the big game, to viewers located in the United States.

MacRumors:

Super Stream Sunday, which starts on February 1 at noon Eastern Time, will include Super Bowl XLIX, the Super Bowl XLIX halftime show with Katy Perry, and the Super Bowl XLIX pre- and post-game shows. It will also feature an episode of The Blacklist.

The content will be streamed via the NBCSports.com website and also through the NBC Sports Live Extra app on the iPad/iPod touch without the need for a cable subscription.

While viewing NBC content via NBC.com or an app usually requires an authenticated cable subscription, the network is running the Super Bowl Sunday promotion to introduce users to its “TV Everywhere” Internet offerings.

“‘Super Stream Sunday’ builds off of NBCUniversal’s commitment to create broader TV Everywhere opportunities for our consumers,” said Alison Moore, GM and EVP, TV Everywhere, NBCUniversal. “We are leveraging the massive digital reach of the Super Bowl to help raise overall awareness of TV Everywhere by allowing consumers to explore our vast TVE offering with this special one-day-only access.”

You may notice we didn’t mention the iPhone as a device to use to view the stream. That’s because NBC doesn’t have the live-streaming rights for the game, due to an exclusive deal between Verizon Wireless and the NFL.

Verizon and the NFL plan to offer a Super Bowl app that will offer “exclusive in-stadium video content” including commercials and replays shown from four camera angles.

NBC Sports Live Extra is available FREE in the iOS App Store. [DIRECT LINK]

Note: MacRumors mentions that users not residing in the United States or Mexico can access the Super Bowl via the NFL’s Game Rewind service.
