T-Mobile Says Pay Your Bill on Time for a Year – You’ll Get Their Best Deals

Have you ever walked into your carrier’s store, pumped because you’re about to get a great deal on a brand new iPhone or other device, only to find out you’re not eligible because of a less than optimum credit score? T-Mobile has some good news for you.

T-Mobile CEO John Legere:

“The fact is that 63 percent of Americans have a less than the perfect credit score. Which means that more than half of all Americans are denied the best deals. They either have to fork over more cash –both upfront and over time – or walk out the door empty-handed.

“This should shock you. And we’ve been a part of the problem, too. But no more.”

Every T-Mobile customer who’s paid their wireless phone bill on time for 12 straight months will qualify for T-Mobile’s best device pricing on every smartphone and tablet they sell. This includes any zero down deal, with no interest and no credit check.

Legere says that the simple truth is that T-Mobile’s relationship with a customer is actually a better predictor of future behavior than their credit history.

Smartphone Equality kicks off on January 25th, and T-Mobile will be taking into account existing customers’ track records from then on. That means many could be eligible for a best deal without having any wait time.

Both prepaid and postpaid subscribers can take advantage.

It’ll be interesting to see how the other three major carriers respond to T-Mobile’s plans. I think I can hear them scrambling around right now…
