Watch as These iPhone 6 Handsets are Plunged Into ‘Hot Ice’ and Boiling Coca-Cola

While I don’t fully understand how some folks can look at a new iPhone 6 and think, “How can I torture this device?” I’m glad they do. YouTuber TechRax (via Redmond Pie) has taken his new iPhone 6 and put it through two torture tests that the average user might not dream of.

Before we watch the first video, we need to lay down a little science knowledge. Sodium acetate – otherwise known as ‘hot ice’, when disrupted by a colder object – quickly changes from a liquid to a crystallized, ice-like (yet hot) composition. Pretty cool, eh? So, TechRax decided to plunge his iPhone 6 into a hot ice solution just to see what happens. Does it survive? Place your bets now…

While it was indeed possible that the heat from the sodium acetate could have damaged the device, it looks as if the iPhone 6 took a licking and kept on ticking.

Our second clip involves an iPhone 6 – we’re not sure if it’s the same iPhone 6 that was “hot iced” in the first video – and a pot of boiling Coca-Cola. Coke adds life, but I’m betting a boiling pot full of the sugary soft drink will kill a device like the iPhone 6. Hold your breath as we observe…

As you saw, when it comes to iPhone 6 vs. boiling Coca-Cola, the iPhone loses. Soon after being submerged into the thin layer of boiling liquid, the iPhone’s temperature sensors kick in and throw up a warning on the screen just before it goes completely black.

After cooling the iPhone and scraping the “shell” of Coke from it, we’d have to call this iPhone a total loss. UGH!

While we’re always happy to watch torture tests of iPhones such as the ones presented here, we also want to make sure to warn you not to try this at home! Any kind of extreme temperature changes and direct heat like shown here can be extremely devastating to your device, and possibly yourself.
