BMW Says Discussions With Apple Are Not About an Electric Car Partnership

German car maker BMW has denied earlier reports that its discussions with Apple concerned the development of an electric car. German automotive magazine Auto Motor und Sport had reported that Apple and BMW were involved in close discussions about developing the car maker’s all-electric i3 automobile into an “Apple Car.”

“The BMW spokesman said: ‘We are in regular talks with companies from the IT and telecommunications sector, including Apple, concerning topics like connected vehicles. Developing or building a car is not a topic of these discussions.'”

Auto Motor und Sport had claimed the electric vehicle would be manufactured by BMW, and sold at Apple Stores. Apple was said to be developing an operating system for the vehicle.

A number of reports have claimed that Apple is secretly working on an electric car, while just as many reports downplay the rumor, saying Apple is merely working on expanding its automotive presence via CarPlay.
