Netflix Now Available in Australia and New Zealand

Our readers in Australia and New Zealand will be pleased to learn that movie streaming service Netflix is now available in their countries. A Netflix channel is also available on Apple TVs in those countries. Hear that? It’s the sound of productivity falling all over Australia.

MacRumors:

Netflix plans in Australia are priced at A$8.99 for single-stream access to standard definition content, A$11.99 for two-stream high-definition access, and A$14.99 for four-stream Ultra HD access. All new Netflix subscribers in the two countries can sign up for a one-month free trial.

The content offerings in the two countries are a bit more limited than in the United States, with movies such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Silver Linings Playbook, and more missing from the down-under lineup.

Sydney software developer Kenneth Tsang found the service offered 7,000 fewer titles in Australia than in the U.S.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that while Australian Netflix has several thousand fewer titles available than the U.S. version, it does boast 693 offerings not available in the states.

On June 12, Netflix will launch season three of Orange Is The New Black in the US and in Australia. When the first season of the popular show launched in 2013, viewers in the U.S. and other Netflix-serviced countries were able to binge-watch it, while Australian viewers were forced to wait until it was available on pay TV, where it was shown at a rate of one episode a week.
