Apple on Thursday released an iMac Graphics Update to fix an issue that caused recent models of the computer to freeze up after viewing very large JPEG files.

The update is for the following iMac models:
- iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)
- iMac (27-inch, Late 2013)
- iMac (21.5-inch, Late 2013)
Apple’s accompanying support document describes how the problem occurs when opening large JPEG files under OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, in either Finder or Preview.
“If you’re using using OS X Yosemite v10.10.3 and one of the following iMac models, viewing certain very large JPEG (.jpg) images in the Finder or Preview can cause your iMac to briefly stop responding, display a black screen, and restart to a message that your computer restarted because of a problem.”
If you own one of the affected iMacs, you can download the update from the iMac Graphics Update page, or via the “Update” tab in the Mac App Store.
