Review: TripGo – Route & Transit Planner for iOS Devices

While many of us can happily use Apple or Google Maps to get where we’re going in our vehicles, there are a similarly large number of us who need to use public transit, bicycles, taxis, and ride sharing to get around. TripGo is the app for the latter group.

Overview

TripGo, (full name: Route & Transit Planner – TripGo), combines real-time public transportation information with reminders and calendar syncing to allow using a variety of types of transportation to arrive at your destination.

Before we go too far, it should be noted that while TripGo supports a number of major cities in the United States and Internationally, it does not support them all, nor does it offer real-time data for all of them. Before downloading TripGo, you should check the cities list to make sure your city is supported.

TripGo supplies information about the following:

  • Real-time information for public transport (in some cities)
  • Stops and stations with schedules
  • Door-to-door options for easy comparison on price, time and environmental impact
  • Public transport schedules/timetables
  • Reminders: add a reminder to your trip and the app will notify when to leave
  • Pricing for public transport, taxis, tolls and car parks
  • Sync + save trips to your calendar
  • The ability to launch turn-by-turn navigation in Apple Maps and Google Maps

TripGo offers a number of transportation options, including public transport, (bus, train, ferry, tram, subway, etc.), and private options such as taxi, Uber, shuttle services, car routes and car sharing, motorbike, cycle routes, bike sharing and walking.

TripGo is easy to use, and easy to follow as you progress through your trip. One feature sure to be of interest to many users is the “My Priorities” settings. here, you can set sliders to adjust your priorities on a trip. Do you want to save money, save time, take the environment into consideration, or are you all about convenience? TripGo takes these settings into consideration when showing you routes and transport options.

You can also set agendas, inputting your locations for the day, and having a personalized itinerary setup for that day. Very handy for making sure you can get from one location to the next on time. Agendas also prompt TripGo to remind you when its time to leave to make your next destination or connection. Very handy for public transportation.

TripGo shines at combining the various transportation options you set into a viable route to get where you’re going. The app is invaluable for making sure you can make it to specific bus stops at the time the stops are scheduled for. (And we all know, the busses are never early. SIGH!)

Verdict

If you’re looking for a solution that will guide you around town while allowing you to use a combination of both public and private transportation option, TripGo is definitely worth a download. The low, low price of free is definitely attractive, and if the app offers information for your city, it is well worth a try.
