Here are the Most Played Songs, Artists, and Genres on Beats 1 for July

A new article posted by Quartz on Tuesday analyzed data from July for Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio station, and came up with a list of the station’s most played songs, artists, and genres for the first full month of Beats 1’s existence.

MacRumors:

The company took data collected from 12,445 songs specifically from “early July to early August,” and discovered that artists The Weeknd, Drake, and Disclosure were the top three most-played musicians for the month.

The Weeknd also took top honors on the most played song chart, with the song “Can’t Feel My Face,” which was played a total of 107 times in July. Other artists rounding out the list included Rachel Platten, Beck, and Selena Gomez, with their current chart-topping songs “Fight Song,” “Dreams,” and “Good for You,” respectively.

Songs on Beats 1 don’t get played over and over like they might on other music services, or on standard radio stations. MacRumors notes that while songs do get repeated, it is only for an average of 3.7 times. However, 18 of the top 20 songs were played over 50 times.

Quartz also listed the top genres on Beats 1, with the number one spot going to hip-hop with 1,726 plays, followed by alternative (1,506 plays) and electronic (802 plays) to fill out the top three spots.

The Quartz report on Beats 1 is recommended reading, as it goes into deeper detail with more charts showing such interesting data as the number of songs played weekdays versus weekends, and even a list displaying which songs are played most often in pairs.
