Apple Maps Adds Flyover Locations and ‘Nearby’ Locations Listings for New Areas

Apple on Monday updated its iOS and Mac Maps apps to include Flyover locations for a number of cities, as well as “Nearby” locations listing for Australia, Canada, France, and Germany.

MacRumors:

Introduced in iOS 9, the Nearby feature displays restaurants and stores that are located close by. When searching in the Maps app, Nearby shows up as a list of categories like Food, Drinks, Shopping, and Fun.

The Nearby feature was previously available in only the United States and China, but has now also expanded to Australia, Canada, France, and Germany.

Flyover locations, which highlight landmarks and features in countries in Europe, Asia, and North America, now include:

  • Basel, Switzerland
  • Bielefeld, Germany
  • Gorge Du Verdon, France
  • Hawaii (Big Island), US
  • Hiroshima, Japan
  • Kyoto, Japan
  • Lassen Volcanic National Park, CA
  • Leon, Spain
  • Nagoya, Japan
  • Okayama, Japan
  • Osaka, Japan
  • Porto, Portugal
  • Prague, Czech Republic
  • Sendai, Japan
  • Tulum, Mexico

The Flyover feature in Apple Maps allows users take photorealistic 3D tours of areas, allowing navigation to display close-up views of landmarks and other notable points of interest.
