Some iPhone 6s Owners Report Devices Randomly Shutting Off

iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus owners are reporting (via Reddit) that their new devices will turn themselves off completely, seemingly at random. In many cases, the devices were not being actively used, and the device had plenty of battery power left.

MacRumors:

It’s unknown what causes the shut off, but some users have also reported their home button feels warm to the touch when trying to revive their phones.

MacRumors notes that users on Reddit, the Apple support communities and their own MacRumors forums have experienced the issue. The majority of incidents seem to plague the newest devices, although some iPhone 6 owners have also reported the issue.

Following the seemingly random shutdown, the only way to turn an affected iPhone back on is to force a restart by holding down the power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds.

MacRumors forum users are actively organizing around the issue, gathering data about the affect iPhones, in order to send it to Apple’s engineering team. If you have observed this behavior with your device, you might want to visit the MacRumors forum for more information.

So far, the data indicates that no specific action causes the shutdowns, and iPhone 6s and iOS 9.0.1 users are most affected by the issue.
