Apple is Developing an iOS Support App to Aid Customers With Repairs and Troubleshooting

A new report on Friday indicates Apple is working on an iOS app that will offer its customers easy access to Apple support, troubleshooting and repair options for their Apple devices.

MacRumors:

A series of screenshots of the app were provided by Sonny Dickson to uSwitch Tech, revealing key details about the app and what it’s capable of.

The screenshots show options for chatting with an advisor, scheduling an in-store Genius Bar visit, and sending a device in for service – as well as a collection of support documents and guides to aid in solving common issues such as how to do a restore of an iOS device via iTunes, and how to upgrade to the latest version of iOS.

Quoting an “insider” with knowledge of such things, the report says the”highly interactive and well integrated” app will be tied to the user’s Apple ID, and via that ID will be able to keep track of all of the Apple devices and computers a customer owns, thereby having the ability to present pre-defined solutions to many problems.

Such a centralized app would prove a boon to users who may not be aware of how to access Apple’s sizable library of support documents and other support offerings. It could also take some of the pressure off of Apple employees, such as in-store Geniuses, by potentially cutting down on the number of users who come into the store for minor issues.

At this time, it isn’t known if the app will be a standalone app that might be included on new devices by default, or if the app’s functionality will be integrated with the existing Apple Store app, which currently offers limited access to support, allowing users to schedule Genius appointments at their local Apple retail location.
