While Apple’s piece of the holiday pie was down slightly from 2014’s 51.3% share, the Cupertino firm’s devices still dominated rivals. Second place Samsung grabbed 19.8% of all activations, while Nokia, LG, and Xiaomi took 2.0%, 1.7%, and 1.5% shares respectively.
The so-called “phablets,” larger screened smartphones like Apple’s 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus, proved to be quite popular during the 2015 holiday season, representing 27% of new devices activated. That is up 13% from 2014. Full-sized tablets like Apple’s iPad dropped in popularity, accounting for only 9% of new device activations during the period.

Apple’s medium sized devices, like their 4.7-inch iPhone 6, were the most popular during the period, with 65% of all iOS activations. The Cupertino firm’s full-sized tablets were next, with 14% of activations.

App downloads were a popular pastime after the unwrapping frenzy had died down, as Christmas Day saw 2.2x as many apps being downloaded as were during an average day in December.
