Apple Confirms Opening of First Mexican Retail Store, 2 More Chinese Retail Stores

Apple continues to rock and roll in China, announcing it will open two more retail stores in the country later this month. The company has also confirmed its Latin America expansion plans, announcing plans for its first retail store in Mexico City.

MacRumors reports the company will open a store in the IST shopping mall at 100 Zhongshan Road in Nanjing’s Xuanwu District on Saturday, January 16, while the Guangzhou store will open at the Parc Central retail development at 218 Tianhe Road in the city’s Tianhe District on Thursday, January 28. Both stores will open at 10AM local time.

The two new locations will be open to customers Monday through Sunday, from 10:00AM to 10:00PM. Both will offer the usual amenities, including a Genius Bar and workshops. The new stores will mark the iPhone maker’s 27th and 28th stores to open in China, putting the Cupertino firm well on its way toward its goal of opening 40 stores in the country.

Meanwhile, down Mexico way. Apple on Friday announced its first Mexican retail store, which will be an in-mall store in Mexico City. The company is now accepting job applications online.

AppleInsider:

In a statement issued to local website Sopitas, Apple confirmed construction of a new Apple Store is underway in Mexico City’s Santa Fe Mall, asking those interested in taking a retail position apply through the company’s website. CEO Tim Cook linked to the report in a tweet.

“We are very excited to begin the process of hiring the team that will open our first Apple Store in Mexico, a country rich in art, culture and history. We are excited to provide our valued customers in Mexico City service, training and entertainment that Apple customers around the world love,” the company said.

Apple is also reportedly planning a second Mexico City location that will be a “global flagship” outlet, equal in status to U.S. counterparts, such as the Union Square outlet in San Francisco, or the Fifth Avenue location in New York City.

Currently, there are two Apple Store locations in Latin America, both of which are in Brazil. Apple has yet to announce an official grand opening date for either Mexico City location. However, they are expected to open within a year of each other.
