New Apple Job Listing Indicates More Watch Face Options Coming for the Apple Watch

More watch face options could be on the way in future versions of watchOS on the Apple Watch, as a new Apple help wanted listing indicates the Cupertino firm is looking for someone to help create more faces.

AppleInsider:

The company is recruiting a software engineer to work on the Apple Watch’s dedicated clock face team, according to the listing.

The ideal candidate will:

… be responsible for building the Clock Faces and Complications. You’ll work closely with the UI design, iOS Frameworks, and QA teams to develop interactions of superior quality that will ship to millions of users.

[…]

As a member of the team you will have many responsibilities relating to the design, development, and testing of the device software. These include:

  • Collaborating closely with the design team to push the envelope on human-computer interactions.
  • Creating solutions tailored to the constraints of the software and the hardware of a small, low power device.
  • Working closely with the iOS Apps, iOS Frameworks and Hardware teams to create robust and maintainable systems that will stand the test of time.
  • Coordinating with the quality assurance teams to ensure full test coverage as well as to initiate focused testing on critical components.

The last three faces added to the Apple Watch face lineup, Time-Lapse, Photo, and Photo Album, debuted alongside watchOS 2 last fall. The only other new face is the exclusive Hermes face, which is available only to buyers of the special Hermes Apple Watch models.

While Apple’s desire to work with other fashion brands in addition to Hermes may be the reason for Apple’s clock face team expansion drive, they are hopefully also planning to expand the offerings for general Watch users, although no new faces appeared in the watchOS 2.2 beta, recently released to developers.
