The “Greening” of Apple’s Retail Stores Begins Just Ahead of Earth Day

Earth Day is next Friday, April 22, and Apple is getting ready for the important celebration by “greening” it’s Apple retail stores around the globe. Apple Stores are celebrating by turning the leaf above the store’s Apple logo green, as well employees wearing green shirts that include the iconic Apple logo.

9to5Mac reminds us that starting today, Apple stores are making the transition from their popular plastic shopping bags to eco-friendly paper bags made largely from recycled materials. Stores will continue to use the plastic bags until they’re gone. Apple employees are also being encouraged to ask customers if a bag is necessary, instead of supplying them by default.

In addition to the changes in their retail stores, Apple is also promoting Earth Day and its own environmental efforts with an App Store campaign involving various developers and the WWF, where all proceeds go toward the conservation effort.

Apple is also highlighting its efforts on the front page of its website, where it offers links to the Apps for Earth campaign, as well as its own environmental mini website.

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It was first celebrated in 1970, and is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network, and celebrated in more than 193 countries each year.
