Kohl’s First Retailer to Offer One Tap Payments and Rewards Support for Apple Pay

Kohl’s announced on Wednesday that it has become the first retailer in the U.S. to offer one-tap simultaneous payment and loyalty rewards points for Apple Pay customers using the Kohl’s Charge credit card and Yes2You Rewards loyalty card.

“Kohl’s is blending the physical and digital shopping experiences in more ways than ever before. Offering conveniences to Kohl’s customers that make it easy for them – like a seamless one-tap checkout in Apple Pay that integrates our value-driven Yes2You Rewards loyalty program – is one of the ways that we are leading as an omnichannel retailer,” said Ratnakar Lavu, Kohl’s chief technology officer. “We are continuing to innovate in mobile to provide an easy, seamless shopping experience whether it’s our mobile payment offerings, the features and functionality on Kohl’s mobile app or the Kohls.com experience on smartphones and tablets.”

The new combined functionality is currently available at checkout in around 250 Kohl’s stores in the United States, and the company expects to make it available chain wide later this month.

In order to take advantage of the new functionality, Kohl’s customers need only to add their Kohl’s Charge and Yes2You Rewards cars to Apple Pay. They will then both pay for their purchases, and rack up rewards points, with a simple tap of their device’s Touch ID for verification.

Kohl’s has long supported Apple Pay in its stores, adding support for the touchless payment system in June 2015. It became the first retailer to offer Apple Pay using its own store-branded credit cards last October. JCPenney announced late last year it will be rolling out Apple Pay support for its credit cards.
