Apple Pay Now Supports Canadian Bank Tangerine

Apple Pay Now Supports Canadian Bank Tangerine

Canadian bank Tangerine now offers support for Apple Pay for use with its Tangerine Money-Back MasterCard credit card. The bank is a subsidiary of Scotiabank, and is the seventh-largest bank in Canada, serving around 2 million customers.

Tangerine credit cards can be added to Apple Pay by tapping the “Add Credit or Debit Card” option in the Wallet app on iPhone 5 and newer models running iOS 8.1 or later. Verification can be completed with the updated Tangerine Mobile Banking app, available now on the App Store [Direct Link] for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Apple Pay can be basically used anywhere in Canada where contactless payments are accepted. This includes: Aldo, Apple Stores, Canadian Tire, Chapters, Coles, Giant Tiger, Indigo, London Drugs, Mark’s, McDonald’s, On The Go, Petro-Canada, Pizza Hut, Rona, Staples, Tim Hortons, and hundreds of other merchants nationwide.

Adding Your Tangerine Credit Card to Apple Pay

Users can add their credit or debit card to Apple Pay, by doing the following:

  • iPhone users running iOS 9 can go to the Wallet app and tap the “+” icon in the upper right-hand corner to begin, and then just follow the prompts. Users of iPads with Touch ID can add a card to the service to use in apps by going into “Settings” -> “Wallet & Apple Pay” to add a card there.
  • Verification can be completed with the updated Tangerine Mobile Banking app.
  • Apple Watch users will need to enter the Watch app on their iPhone, Tap on the “Wallet & Apple Pay” option, and then tap the “Add Credit or Debit Card” option.

In June, Apple announced they will bring their payments solution to the web, allowing internet shoppers to use the service to make payments for goods and services on the web. Mac Safari users will soon be allowed to use the solution in the browser, confirming purchases via Touch ID on their iPhone, or by double-clicking the side button on their Apple Watch. The new feature will put Apple’s service into direct competition with internet payments behemoth PayPal.
