Apple TV Universal Search Adds First Service Outside of U.S. With Australia’s Stan

It’s a first for Apple TV’s Universal Search feature, as Apple has quietly added programming from Australia’s “Stan” streaming movies and television service to the search results.

Australian Apple TV viewers who have the Stan app installed on their little black box will now be able to tell if a movie or television show is available on the streaming service when they do a text-based or Siri search on the device. Before now, only results from iTunes and Netflix were available to Australian users.

Australia is the first country to get search results for anything besides iTunes and Netflix outside of the United States. U.S. Apple TV viewers get Universal Search results for 35 different streaming services, while Canada, France, Germany, and the U.K. are limited to iTunes and Netflix. Other countries only get results from the iTunes movie catalog.

Apple has been working diligently to expand the number of steaming providers included in Universal Search results, but until now, those results have been limited to viewers in the United States.
