There is blatant copying, and then there’s Samsung copying. A Samsung patent application for a wearable device includes what appear to be exact drawings of the Apple Watch. The images were discovered by Patently Apple and Business Insider.

While many of the drawings in the patent application show what is a modular design differing form the Apple Watch’s look, a good number of the drawings will look quite familiar to any Apple Watch user.
Page 9 of the patent application is where the first “deja-vu all over again” moments begin, as a side view on that page displays a rounded rectangular design with a band that looks identical to the Apple Watch and its band. The buttons and their positioning are damned near a perfect match for the positioning of said buttons on Apple’s wearable.

The Xerox moment continues on the next page, where we see more Apple Watch-like drawings depicting the back of the watch, along with what appears to be a Milanese Loop band.

While we can understand Samsung engineers need to get their inspiration from somewhere, we wonder why they don’t just go ahead and pay a licensing fee to Apple for their Watch designs, and save a few legal fees in the future.
