TextSoap 8.1 Update Brings UI Improvements, New Text Cleaners, and More

We’re big fans of Unmarked Software’s TextSoap text cleaning tool for the Mac, and developer Mark Munz just keeps on making the app better and better. Version 8.1, which is available today, brings a number of new cleaners, user interface improvements, new options for find and replace fields, and more.

Inserting regular expression meta-characters is now easier than ever. The new options are available for all find and replace fields, either in the text editor window or with custom cleaners. In addition to common sequences for returns, tabs, and digits, TextSoap 8.1 offers support for Unicode properties, capture and quantity. “The new insert special button is another step forward in helping customers work with the complexity of regular expressions,” said Mark Munz, developer of TextSoap.

TextSoap’s new search history feature gives users access to the last 25 searches, making it easier to convert interactive searches into custom cleaner find and replace actions. Users can also select a custom or built-in group to have the shortcuts (cmd-1 thru cmd-9) associated with the first 9 cleaners.

The app update also brings a more traditional toolbar for text edit windows, a new text editor preference tab and appearance preference tab, dynamic text field sizing for find and replace custom cleaner actions, and an improved mechanism for defining TextSoap Menu global shortcuts.

TextSoap 8.1 adds the following new cleaners:

  • Fix up macOS name to rename “Mac OS X”, “OS X” to “macOS”
  • Reverse Line Order
  • Remove All Spaces
  • Remove All Whitespace

Unmarked Software isn’t the largest software development house around, but they are one of the most responsive developers I’ve ever dealt with. Mark handles much of the customer service for his company, and his turnaround time on answering a question, or dealing with an app issue is to be envied, even by the most customer-centic of companies.

TextSoap 8.1 is available free to all TextSoap 8 customers, and users can update wither from directly within the app or they can download the update from Unmarked Software’s web site. New users can purchase TextSoap 8.1 directly from the Unmarked website for $44.99. Upgrades for users of previous versions are also available. A trial version is available for download.
