Shipping Estimates for New MacBook Pro with Touch Bar Begin to Slip

It’s less than 24 hours since the new MacBook Pro models featuring Apple’s new Touch Bar have become available, and shipping dates for the 13-inch model have already slipped to 4-5 weeks. The 15-inch model currently sits at a 3-4 week estimate. Shipping times for the 13-inch entry-level MacBook Pro without Touch Bar is holding steady at November 1-2.

Orders of Apple’s latest and greatest MacBook Pro models kicked off around 11:30AM Pacific time, immediately following the end of the “Hello Again” media event where they were unveiled. Initial shipping estimates for the new 13-inch and 15-inch models were 2-3 weeks.

Initial supplies of both the 13- and 15-inch Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro models sold out in around six hours, causing the shipping estimates to begin to slide. The 13-inch TouchBar models appear to be the most popular, as they are sitting at four to five weeks for shipping, compared to the 15-inch models’ three to four week estimates.

In addition to the new Touch Bar, the new Pro models also offer Touch ID integrated into the power button. Users can enroll their fingerprint in Touch ID on the laptop, and use it to quickly unlock their Mac, make Apple Pay purchases online, and even quickly switch user accounts on shared MacBooks. The new Touch ID capabilities are powered by the new Apple T1 chip, which includes the same Security Enclave found on Touch ID-enabled iOS devices.

While the new MacBook Pro is the thinnest and lightest MacBook Pro ever designed – coming in at just 14.9mm thick and three pounds for the 13-inch model, and 15.5mm thick and four pounds for the 15-inch model – It also “weighs in” as the most powerful MacBook Pro yet, with sixth-generation Core i5 processors available for the 13-inch model, and quad-core Core i7 processors available for the 15-inch model.
