Apple Cuts Prices on 512GB and 1TB SSD Upgrades for Older Mac Models

Apple has quietly dropped the prices on high-capacity SSD upgrades across its lineup of older Mac models by $100 to $200. 512GB and 1TB SSD options for the MacBook Air, iMac, Mac Pro, Mac mini, and 2015 MacBook Pro are all priced lower than they were last week, before Apple’s “Hello Again” media event.

Until the price drop, Apple had charges between $200 and $500 for their 512GB upgrade, depending on the Mac model and base configuration, The 1TB upgrade option carried a tariff of between $700 and $900.

For example, a 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K Display now runs $400 to add a 512GB SSD to the base configuration. The high-end model of the same computer still requires a $200 bump for 512GB of storage, but it’s $100 lower than previously to add a 1TB SSD ($600).

MacBook users are also benefiting from the lower pricing, as a 512GB SSD upgrade for the 13-inch MacBook Air comes in at $200, down $100 from last week’s price. The legacy 15-inch MacBook Pro even gets a price cut in SSD upgrades, with 512GB and 1TB upgrades going for $200 and $600, respectively.

Mac mini buyers, which seems to be one of the most neglected of the Mac customers, weren’t left out in the cold, with SSD upgrade tariffs dropping from $300 and $800 for 512GB and 1TB configurations to $200 and $600, respectively.
