Instapaper Makes its Premium Level Service Free

Instapaper has announced that it is making its read-it-later app’s premium features available for free. The service formerly offered its premier tier’s features for $3 per month, or $30 year, but from now on, all features will be available for the low, low cost of free.

The service, which was acquired in August by Pinterest, will offer the following formerly pay-only features to all users:

  • An ad-free Instapaper website
  • Full-text search for all articles
  • Unlimited Notes
  • Text-to-speech playlists
  • Unlimited speed reading
  • “Send to Kindle” via bookmarklet and mobile apps
  • Kindle Digests of up to 50 articles

Instapaper says the move to free for everyone is possible, now that they’re “better resourced” (with a link to a blog entry about their acquisition by Pinterest).

Existing Instapaper Premium users aren’t going to get ripped off, they’ll get prorated refunds for however much time is left on their paid subscriptions.

For more information, visit the Instapaper website. The Instapaper iOS app is also free, and is available in the App Store. [GET IT HERE]
