Apple Seeds tvOS 10.2 Beta 1 to Developers – Offers Accelerated Scrolling Option

Apple on Tuesday released the first beta seed of their tvOS 10.2 update to developers. The new beta seed offers an accelerated scrolling option that allows users to scroll through on-screen content much more quickly.

Developers with fourth-generation Apple TVs can install the new beta – Build 14W5222d – to their device either from the Apple Developer Center or as an over-the-air update on Apple TV devices that have the proper beta profile installed.

tvOS betas are a bit more involved to install than beta updates for iOS and OS X. Users must connect the Apple TV to a computer with a USB-C to USB-A cable, and install the update via iTunes or Apple Configurator. However, once a beta profile has been installed on the device, new beta releases are available over-the-air.

What’s New in tvOS 10.2:

Apple’s release notes for tvOS 10.2 Beta 1 indicate the seed includes a new accelerated scrolling option for on-screen content:

Scroll views with a lot of content now have a behavior that allows users to scroll through them much more quickly. Several large swipes of the Siri remote will automatically switch into this mode. Additionally, users can swipe on the far right side of the remote to navigate specific indexes. If you see any unexpected behavior in your applications from this feature, please file a bug.

If we hear of any other new features in the new beta, we will report them here.

Apple also released a new beta for Xcode 8.3 alongside the tvOS 10.2 beta. The Xcode beta – Build 8W109m – can also be downloaded from the Apple Developer Center.
