Apple Watch Revenue at an All-Time High in Fiscal Q1 2017

Apple CEO Tim Cook, speaking during Apple’s fiscal first quarter 2017 earnings call, said holiday demand for the Apple Watch was “so strong” that Apple couldn’t keep up with demand. Cook said the Apple Watch set all-time unit and revenue records for the quarter.

Apple doesn’t break out sales of the Apple Watch, instead including it in the “Other” products category along with the Apple TV, Beats products, the iPod, and other accessories, such as its new wireless “AirPod” earbuds.

The “Other” category as a whole saw revenue falling eight percent year-over-year. Apple CFO Luca Maestri told the Financial Times that Apple TV sales were down year over year, which helped contribute to the drop in revenue for the category as a whole.

Sales of the Watch likely received a nice boost via the release of the Series 2 models, which hit store shelves in September. The new models boasted a faster processor, better waterproofing, a brighter display, and built-in GPS functionality. Apple also released the Series 1 at the same time, which is a cheaper version of the first-generation model equipped with a faster processor.
