VUDU App Arrives on Fourth-Generation Apple TV

The VUDU streaming movie and TV service has officially launched on the fourth-generation Apple TV. The VUDU app offers users the ability to view movies and TV titles purchased outside of the app, and stream over 4,000 “Movies on Us” titles.

Starting today, you can download our new Vudu Player for Apple TV from the Apple TV App Store. That’s right, you heard it here – second. Ha!

The Vudu Player for Apple TV lets you play over 4,000 free Movies On Us titles, as well as your existing Vudu collection, natively on 4th generation Apple TVs with tvOS 10. And the Vudu Player is the first (and only – just want to reiterate that) player that gives you access to your UltraViolet digital locker on Apple TV (#humblebrag).

VUDU users will not be able to rent or purchase any movies or TV shows from within the Apple TV app due to VUDU’s wish to avoid paying Apple’s 30% cut of in-app purchases. Users will be able to add new shows and films to their collection via the VUDU website, and then view them on the Apple TV.

Users can search for titles via Siri voice search. However, the new app is apparently not integrated with Apple’s “TV” app.
