Apple Officially Discontinues AirPort Wireless Router Line of Products

Apple has officially pulled the plug on its AirPort lineup of wireless routers and storage products. The discontinued models include the AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme, and both models of AirPort Time Capsule.

Apple shared the news in a statement to 9to5Mac:

We’re discontinuing the Apple AirPort base station products. They will be available through Apple.com, Apple’s retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers while supplies last.

The AirPort line of products hasn’t seen an update since 2012 for the AirPort Express and 2013 for the AiPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule. In late 2016, it was reported that Apple had put an end to any further development of AirPort models, reassigning AirPort personnel to other products.

The company began selling third-party routers in January of this year, when it began offering the Linksys Velop Mesh Wi-Fi System.

While Apple plans to offer their AirPort lineup in stores until available supplies are sold out, don’t expect a discount or anything silly like that. 9to5 reports the devices will sell for the usual prices AirPort Express for $99, AirPort Extreme for $199, 2TB AirPort Time Capsule at $299, and 3TB AirPort Time Capsule at $399. Third-party resellers may knock some off of the price though, so be sure to check around if you’re interested.
