Gurman: “iOS 13 ‘Yukon’ Will Have a Big iPad-Focused Feature Upgrade”

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says next year’s iOS 13 update will include several iPad-focused features, including an updated Files app.

Gurman’s revelation came in a post on Twitter:

‘iOS 13 “Yukon’ will have a big iPad-focused feature upgrade as well, including an updated Files app. some other things in the works are tabs in apps like in MacOS, same app side by side, Apple Pencil stuff. The home screen redesign is iPad focused.

Apple is said to be working on a new version of the Files app, offering in-app tabs similar to those seen in macOS apps. Also mentioned is support for side-by-side in Split View mode, and unspecified improvements to Apple Pencil features.

Gurman has previously mentioned that some features originally destined for iOS 12 have been delayed until the release of iOS 13 to allow for fixing bugs and improving the performance of the features. The delayed features include a redesigned Home screen and a revamped Photos app.

While iOS 12 may be missing a few expected features when it debuts in June at WWDC 2018, Gurman believes at least one major feature will make the show, support for cross-platform apps with macOS 10.14. The feature would allow apps to run on both iOS and macOS devices.

However, the debut date for the cross-platform feature may be up in the air, as Daring Fireball’s John Gruber says he expects to see the new functionality debut in 2019, in iOS 13 and macOS 10.15.
