Apple Removes Alex Jones’ ‘Infowars’ App From the App Store

Apple Removes Alex Jones’ ‘Infowars’ App From the App Store

Apple has permanently removed the “Infowars” app from the App Store. The removal comes one day following Twitter’s banning of Infowars host Alex Jones from the social network.

MacRumors:

Apple confirmed the app’s permanent removal to BuzzFeed late on Friday, but instead of giving a specific reason for taking action now, Apple simply cited its own general App Store guidelines, which prohibit content that is “offensive, insensitive, upsetting, intended to disgust, or in exceptionally poor taste.”

In early August, Apple removed five Infowars podcasts form its Podcasts platform, saying it had made the move on the grounds of not tolerating hate speech.

At that time, the Cupertino firm defended the fact that it hadn’t yet removed the Infowars app from the App Store, saying the store is a place for “all points of view” as long as apps are respectful to users with differing opinions.

However, as of Friday evening, the app is gone from the App Store, and a search for the app returns only apps related to Infowars, while the original app is nowhere to be found.
