Report: ‘iPhone Xs Max’ is What Apple Will Call its 2018 6.5-inch Model

Last week we got a peek at what the 2018 iPhones will look like, now we have a likely name for the largest of the trio. The larger 6.5-inch iPhone will be reportedly be known as the “iPhone Xs Max.”

9to5Mac reports on the moniker, citing the ever-popular “sources familiar with Apple’s marketing plans.”

9to5Mac:

Included in our reporting last week was the new detail that “iPhone Xs” will be the name of Apple’s new OLED models while confirming two size options and a new gold finish for the stainless steel sides. We’ve since heard that Apple will likely use “iPhone Xs Max” as the marketing name for the larger version of the new models.

Since the debut of the iPhone 6 Apple has offered two sizes of the latest iPhone, with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus taking the honors in the 2017 model year. (The iPhone X was a different model with different features than the “8” models.)

However, if 9to5Mac’s report comes to be true, this year’s iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max OLED-screen equipped devices will begin a new naming convention. (No word on what the LCD-equipped model that rounds out the trio of new iPhones will be called.)

Today’s report does jibe with an earlier report by Bloomberg that said Apple was considering dropping the “Plus” label for this year’s larger version.

Apple will hold its iPhone-centric “Gather Round” event on September 12 at Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. The Cupertino firm will show off the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, a mid-sized LCD version that will sell for less than the OLED-equipped models, the Apple Watch Series 4, and maybe some surprises. Stay tuned.
