Apple Has Registered New iPad Pro Models and a New ‘Bluetooth Device’ in China

Apple’s registration of new model numbers with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) in late September indicates new iPad Pro models and a new Bluetooth device which could be a new Apple Pencil.

MacRumors:

According to MySmartPrice, Apple registered iPad model numbers A1876, A1980, and A1993 which correspond to previous iPad registrations that we saw Apple file in July with the Eurasian Economic Commission. The exception is A1993, which has not been seen in a prior filing.

The new model numbers do not correspond to any existing Apple devices, and are likely meant to represent new iPad Pro models. July also saw Apple register model numbers A1934, A1979, A2013, A2014, and A1985 with the ECC, for new iPad Pro models to be sold in countries including Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia.

The registration of the unknown model number A2051 “Bluetooth device” bolsters rumors that Apple will be releasing a second-generation Apple Pencil alongside the new iPad Pro models.

Apple is expected to hold an event sometime in October, where it is expected the Cupertino company will debut new iPads and possibly new Mac models. Many expect Apple to hold the event the last week of the month, in order to not conflict with the release date of the new iPhone XR handsets.

Apple is expected to debut new iPad Pro models, featuring larger displays, boasting slimmer bezels and no Home button. The new models are expected to feature Face ID and a True Depth camera, as well as faster processors, improved camera capabilities, and possibly a USB-C port to replace the usual Lightning port.
