AT&T’s WarnerMedia Working to Launch New Netflix Competitor in Q4 2019

AT&T’s WarnerMedia announced today that it is preparing a new streaming service designed to compete with the likes of Netflix, Hulu, and other services of the type.

“Today we announced plans to launch a new direct-to-consumer streaming service in the fourth quarter of 2019. This is another benefit of the AT&T/Time Warner merger, and we are committed to launching a compelling and competitive product that will serve as a complement to our existing businesses and help us to expand our reach by offering a new choice for entertainment with the WarnerMedia collection of films, television series, libraries, documentaries and animation loved by consumers around the world. We expect to create such a compelling product that it will help distributors increase consumer penetration of their current packages and help us successfully reach more customers.”

The new streaming service is being touted as a benefit of the merger between AT&T and Time Warner. The new service will include the “WarnerMedia collection of films, television series, libraries, documentaries and animation loved by consumers around the world.”

AT&T has plenty of experience in the world of streaming content, as they already own DirecTV NOW, HBO Go, and HBO Now, as well as Cinemax’s streaming service and others.

WarnerMedia CEO John Stankey said on Wednesday that the new streaming service will offer a “compelling price point” when it launches in late 2019.
