Apple’s Upgraded TV App to Offer New Service Subscription Feature

Apple is reportedly working on an upgrade to their TV app, which will offer support for streaming service subscriptions. The update is expected to hit devices sometime in April.

The Information reports Apple will add support for subscribing to streaming services (such as HBO Now), to the TV app. The feature will allow Apple TV and iOS device users subscribe to the services via the TV app itself, instead of requiring them to do so via the streaming services’ apps.

The report says Apple is telling entertainment firms to be ready by mid-April if they want to participate in the new feature. The Information cited the ever-popular “people familiar with the matter,” and adds the Apple is targeting a date “within several weeks” of the date it has told the streaming companies.

At launch, while the subscription process will take place in Apple’s TV app, viewers will be sent to the streaming service’s app to view content. However, Apple “could eventually move the streaming to its own app.”
