If your eyes ever mist over with nostalgic thoughts of Microsoft’s ancient Windows 95 operating system (or with tears of remembered frustration), I have great news for you.
Slack developer Felix Rieseberg, has made a download available for Mac OS, Linux and Windows PCs that allows you to run Windows 95 in all its 256 color glory. I tried it out this morning, and it works great. Well, as great as Windows 95 ever did.
With it running, you’ll be able to relive all the glory that was once the pinnacle of UX GUI design. Be advised, this is not officially sanctioned software from Microsoft. It must be downloaded from the developer site Github. As such, do so at your own risk.
There are extra goodies in the download, including the online services that were included with the operating system, including CompuServe, Prodigy, the Microsoft Network, AT&T WorldNet, and of course AOL.
More importantly, popular games such as Doom, A10 Tank Killer, Grand Prix, and others are also included.
To download the Windows 95 executable for your machine, visit the Github website.
