Apple to Soon Release New Wire-Free Beats Powerbeats Earphones

Apple will soon release a completely wire-free version of its Beats Powerbeats Wireless Earphones, says a report by CNET. The updated earphones, designed for workouts will be completely sans wires, much like Apple’s AirPods.

CNET:

A cord-free version of the Beats PowerBeats wireless sports earphones will be announced in April, according to a person close to the retail channel who has previously provided credible information to CNET.

We’ve seen this game plan before. After Apple released the AirPods in the fall of 2016, Beats also announced new headphones, including the BeatsX, which incorporated Apple’s latest headphone chip, the W1.

The new Powerbeats are expected to make use of Apple’s new H1 chip and feature always-on Siri voice assistant, features Apple’s latest AirPods offer. They are also expected to offer the other connectivity improvements offered by the H1 chip.

Powerbeats don’t directly compete with Apple’s AirPods, as Powerbeats are specifically designed for working out, running, and other activities that AirPods aren’t targeted for.

CNET’s report didn’t include pricing information for the Powerbeats. The current version takes a $199 chunk out of your credit card.
