Apple on Tuesday updated its Shortcuts app to version 2.2, adding support for several new Notes app-related actions.
New options in Shortcuts 2.2 include: “Create Note,” “Append to Note,” “Find Notes,” and “Show Notes,” all of which can be incorporated into custom shortcuts. Users can also pull out numbers from text by using the new “Get Numbers from Input” action.
In the new version of the app, tapping on the “Library” tab will now take you to the bottom of your Shortcuts list. The “Get Travel Time” action now returns more information, adding route name, arrival time, and distance to the info.
There are of course, the usual bug fixes and improvements, because what would any app update be without those?
The shortcuts app first debuted alongside iOS 12, and allows iOS users to create automations containing multiple steps, using both first and third-party apps.
The shortcuts are then launched from the Today widget, from Search, or by a Siri command. Users can even add an app icon to their home screen to launch their favorite shortcuts.
An example shortcut would be the custom “I’m heading home” phrase sent to Siri which would kickoff a chain of steps that texts a previously entered message to a contact or contacts, adjusts a HomeKit-compatible thermostat at home, displays your estimated travel time, and begins playing your favorite playlist.
The Shortcuts app includes a gallery of shortcut suggestions, as well as tools that can be used to create custom shortcuts.
