Twitter for iOS Gets a New ‘Lights Out’ Darker Dark Mode Option

Twitter on Thursday announced that Twitter for iOS devices has gained a new “Lights Out” feature that makes the app’s previous Dark Mode option darker than ever.

The new feature can be toggled on or off in the Settings section of the Twitter app. It can also be used with the usual Dark Mode feature to make the screen a bit darker on OLED displays.



January saw Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey says Twitter was working on just such a mode in response to complaints that the existing Dark Mode wasn’t a true black mode.

The previously existing Dark Mode is still present in the app, as a blue/gray color Dark Mode. The “Lights Out” mode uses a pure black color palate. A newly added Automatic Dark Mode feature for turning on Dark Mode automatically based on the user’s timezone.
