Kuo: Two New AirPods Models on the Way in 2019 and 2020

More AirPods-related rumors are circling the bowl, as well-connected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts Apple will ship two new models of their popular AirPods wireless earbuds at the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020.

Kuo predicts one model is expected to offer an all-new form-factor at a higher price. The second model is expected to offer the same design as the Apple’s current earbuds at the same price.

Apple is said to be mulling a possible external design shift in manufacturing, shifting to a new SiP design to improve assembly yields, save internal space, and cut costs.

Kuo says the new models could lead to Apple’s selling 52 million units in 2019, and 75 million to 85 million units in 2020.

AppleInsider says the rest of Kuo’s report focuses on the suppliers that would benefit or suffer due to Apple’s shift. Apple supplier Unitech is expected to be hurt by the manufacturing shift, while existing Apple partners Amkor, Luxshare, and Goertek would gain the majority of the component and assembly orders.

Earlier today, a DigiTimes report claimed Apple will launch their third-generation AirPods – which will include a noise-cancellation feature – by the end of the year.

As is usual, take any reports like these with a grain of your favorite salt-free seasoning. Nothing is set in stone until Apple officially announces it.
