President Trump Talks Trade and Other Issues with Apple CEO Tim Cook

United States President Donald Trump sat down for a talk with Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday to discuss international trade and other topics as the President mulls over making good his tariff hike threats on goods from China.

Trump’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump disclosed the meeting during an event with state governors on skills development. Cook, who visits the White House on a semi-regular basis, has worked with Ms. Trump on several of her job training and education initiatives.

Trump reportedly spoke with Cook about “trade, U.S. investment, immigration and privacy,” White House spokesman Judd Deere said.

The meeting comes as the President is considering whether to go ahead with threatened tariff increases in his trade war with China. Trump has said he’ll announce a decision following the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan at the end of June, where he hopes to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Trump is using the tariffs to push Xi to make changes to the Chinese trade practices. Makers of consumer electronics has so far escaped heavy tariffs, but that could change in the next round of hikes.
