Apple Releases Second Public Beta of macOS Catalina to Public Beta Testers

Apple today seeded the second public beta of macOS Catalina to its public beta testing group. The new seed comes one day after the the seeding of the upcoming operating system’s third developer beta and one week after the first public beta.

The second public beta builds of the new operating system can be downloaded via the Apple Beta Software Program website by users signed up to take part in the testing program. The public beta versions of the operating systems usually trail the release of their developer beta by a short period of time. Signing up at the website gives users access to macOS, iOS, and tvOS beta downloads.

The new operating system offers new apps and new technology for developers, and replaces the venerable iTunes app with Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and the Apple TV apps. The new OS also allows Mac users to use their iPad as a second display or graphics tablet.

As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to never install betas on your daily driver iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch or Mac computer, instead only install it on a device set aside for testing purposes.

We also strongly advise that Mac users perform a Time Machine or other type of backup before installing the macOS Catalina beta.

macOS 10.15 Catalina is compatible with the following Macs:

  • MacBook: 2015 and later
  • MacBook Air: 2012 and later
  • MacBook Pro: 2012 and later
  • Mac mini: 2012 and later
  • Mac: 2012 and later
  • iMac Pro: 2017 and later
  • Mac Pro – 2013 and later
