LG Begins Rolling Out AirPlay 2 & HomeKit to Select U.S. Smart TVs

LG today announced that AirPlay 2 and HomeKit are now rolling out to select LG television set throughout the United States.

Select LG OLED and NanoCell (Except the SM8100 series) 4K UHD TVs with ThinQ AI capability will receive the firmware update. The remaining 4K UHD TV series in LG’s lineup are expected to also receive this update later in 2019.

After the update is in place, users will be able to beam content – including video, music, and photos – from their iPhone, iPad, or Mac to their LG TV, just like it already does when using an Apple TV.

The update’s HomeKit support will allow users to control their television using Siri voice commands or via the Home app on their Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Siri commands will allow users to play specific shows or movies via AirPlay to the LG smart set.

LG announced during CES 2019 that their 2019 televisions would offer support for AirPlay 2. Samsung, Sony, and Vizio also announced support for their lineups, some support will even be added to previous years’ models.
