macOS Catalina Beta 3 Includes New ‘Drift’ Screensaver

macOS Catalina Beta 3, released earlier this week, includes a pleasant surprise, a new screensaver called “Drift.”

The screensaver displays a multi-colored 3D array of light trails, with particle moving in a wave-like motion. The screensaver is rendered on-the-fly, using the Mac’s GPU.

Several color theme options are available, and users can select form a variety of color schemes, based off the user’s, desktop wallpaper, as well as ‘Space Gray’, ‘Silver’ and the rainbow ‘Spectrum’.

The new operating system offers new apps and new technology for developers, and replaces the venerable iTunes app with Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and the Apple TV apps. The new OS also allows Mac users to use their iPad as a second display or graphics tablet.

As usual, MacTrast and Apple both warn users to never install betas on your daily driver iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch or Mac computer, instead only install it on a device set aside for testing purposes.

We also strongly advise that Mac users perform a Time Machine or other type of backup before installing the macOS Catalina beta.

macOS 10.15 Catalina is compatible with the following Macs:

  • MacBook: 2015 and later
  • MacBook Air: 2012 and later
  • MacBook Pro: 2012 and later
  • Mac mini: 2012 and later
  • Mac: 2012 and later
  • iMac Pro: 2017 and later
  • Mac Pro – 2013 and later
